From 1997 to 2014 homes within a quarter mile of a Starbucks location increased in value by 96%. The coffee mecca is not the only retailer increasing home values; a recent study showed that living near Whole Foods or Trader Joes also increases property value. To be exact, Zillow reported that homes located within a mile from one of these specialty stores were worth more than twice as much as the median home in the rest of the country.
This shows a growing trend that places such as Starbucks or Whole Food indicate that their neighborhood is desirable or up and coming. For stores such as Trader Joes or Whole Foods, it is more than checking off items on your grocery list. It has become a lifestyle people associate with.
